If she's an older dog, this makes perfect sense. It's very normal. What you are seeing is, essentially, a callous. Older dogs and sometimes younger dogs who spend a lot of time on concrete get these on their joints because of bearing pressure on their legs. This can't be reversed once it has developed. However, rub some udder cream into it, and it won't hurt her as badly. Also, keep her off pavement as much as possible and provide soft bedding. If you think of it in terms of a car (not sure if you are mechanically minded, but worth a try) essentially her shocks are wearing out and need some cushioning.

better take her in to the vet's office...they'll know best...it could be an infection, or something from the mange

I agree with SM vets, the best thng to do

You need to take your dog back to the vet. There are several things this could be. If she is in discomfort the vet should look at her. This dog is very old for her size and if she is going to continue living well she has to be in the best possible condition. Her mange could just be having a flare up or there could be other problems. Also old dogs get what you call hot spots on their joints. This is caused when their is some inflamation in the joint so the dog licks its skin and causes a sore. This could be what you are seeing.

Make an appointment for your dog to see the vet though. Just in case it is something more serious.
