we dont have the money to go to the vet, her ears are bright red and she keeps itching at them. shes a year and a half old.. i have cleaned them and plucked the hair our, there doesnt look like there is a wax build up or anything, and it smells like a ear infection... please help us! shes our baby and we feel horrible, any tips will be much appreciated

I have a couple of German Wirehaired Pointers that suffered from horrible ear infections for over 2 years...The vet would prescribe the same thing every time and as soon as the meds were gone, the infections would flare back up...I finally took one of them to a different vet for something else because my vet was unavailable...He noticed the ears...He gave me a squeeze bottle and told me to fill it with 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 vinegar and clean the ears at least once a day with that, preferably twice a day...That's what I did and after about 2 weeks, the ears leared up and for over a year now my dogs ears are infection free ! I now just clean the ears with that solution about once a week and it hasn't come back .. :-)

You should take the dog to the vet but i understand not having the money. you can buy ear "cream" for lack of a better word at pet stores that has aloe in it that can help soothe the ears some but save up the money as soon as you can to take her to the vet

Don't pluck the hair out! Cutting is ok if they are long. If you have an electric shaver that sometimes helps if your careful

Wherever you pluck, it leaves a little whole and the infection gets worse.

Let's see... where is the ear... close to the brain... let's not worry about it causing any REAL problems and just love her and she will be fine...

u can try cleaning the ears with equal parts of lukewarm vineagar and water to flush them out,if u can smell and odor and she is shaking and scratching her ears she really needs a antibiotic to clear up the infection. u can get medicated ear drops at the pet store but when my dog had this problem i tried these drops and the only thing was that cleared her ears up was the meds from the vet.try to make payment to the vet because if it gets worse she could loose her hearing and be in a lot of pain later.good luck.

why did you pluck out it's hair what good do you think that's going to do! that is mean! first of all this might be ear mites not ear infection it should only cost around 30 for a vet appiontment and medicine for them and if you don't have that much maybe you shouldn't have a dog. they derserve help if they are . it wouldn't cost that much take them to the vet if you love them

DO NOT put peroxide or alcohol in a dogs ears! It doesn't fully evaporate and the by product is water!! Water is the last thing you want in a dogs ear! It could be ear mites. Take a cotton ball and swab the dogs ear GENTLY, get a dark piece of paper and swipe it on that, look really closely and you might see them moving around. It doesn't always work but you should still go to the vet, sounds like infection. Once this stuff is cleared up you can use something called Oti-cleans for ears. It keeps the wax and hair and junk cleaned out. If it is infection she is going to need meds to clear it up otherwise a much more serious problem can develop. Good luck! =0)

Cleaning is number one. Clean your dog's ears daily (for now) with cleansing pads e.g. Excel Ear Cleansing Pads. Dont' be afraid to clean as deeply as your finger and pad will allow. You should be able to feel a "pocket" as you work the pad down into the ear canal. If the infection is bad, you may have to treat the ear without a thorough cleaning, as it may be too painful. The pads are available from feed stores e.g. Tractor Supply Center, as are the other medications mentioned below. Follow cleaning with nitrofurazone powder and iodoform powder.
