I have a seven year old dachsund about for about 3 years now she has gained some wieght, she has the worst breathe and she has a hard time breathing, but when i look at her she looks bloated more than fat. she has also been losing hair shes practically bald. i cant find any resources on the web. anyone know what this might be?
Why is my dog so bloated?!?
It sounds like either heart failure or heartworms. She really needs to be seen by a vet, and soon..She is retaining fluids, and her lungs get filled.that makes her short of breath...
Why is my dog so bloated?!?
sounds like a heart problem or worms

Take the dog to the vet. Dogs can get all sorts of conditions and they do tend to get tumors as they age. Your vet can find out what the problem is. We here can only tell what may have happened to other dogs. We haven't seen yours and we don't know.

Your pooch may need to have her teeth cleaned. That would help with the bad breath. You can brush her teeth too and help her remove plaque that cause foul odors. You need to take her to a vet to make sure that she is not diabetic or something serious.

Weight gain- Poor quality food, Low Thyroid
Foul Breathe-Poor quality food leads to poor digestion which leads to bad breathe, Dental disease, kidney problems.
Losing hair-Poor quality food, low thyroid.
See the common thread. Problems can be easily solved with a good high quality diet that has Omega 3 %26amp; 6 fatty acids and seaweed or kelp added in. (most do) and a dental.
A full blood panel may be in order to check for liver/kidney issues.
Most dogs show signs of hypothyroidism between 3 and 5 years of age but a diagnosis isn't made in some dogs until they are years older. Males and females seem to be equally affected. Routine testing of young dogs is not commonly done unless the veterinarian has a reason to suspect low thyroid function. Some veterinarians believe that if a Hypothyroidism in dogs is quite commondog has not acquired hypothyroidism by 5 or 6 years of age, the odds are good that it will never be a problem for that individual.
One of the most commonly seen signs that a dog may have insufficient secretion of thyroid hormone, or issues with immune mediated thyroid dysfunction, is weight gain with apparently little food intake. Any overweight pet should be checked for hypothyroidism. In long-standing cases there often is lack of proper hair coat and even hair loss. This loss generally displays a pattern over the lumbar area on both sides, sparse hairs on the back of the rear legs and lack of hair along the abdomen. The coat tends to lack luster and the finer hairs of the undercoat may be missing entirely. Most dogs with hypothyroidism lack energy, prefer warm environments and have poor exercise tolerance. Of great concern to breeders is the fact that dogs with hypothyroidism may be infertile and many breeders have their dogs tested for thyroid function prior to breeding; in dogs with a poor breeding history, hypothyroidism often is the culprit.
Research definitely indicates that most hypothyroid cases are inherited. In fact it is fairly common in certain breeds such as Dachshunds.

Need to take her to a vet for a head to tail evaluation asap. It sounds like she has some major problems going on. Please don't try to diagnose this yourself. She needs a vets attention NOW not later. They will most likely want to do blood work, urine tests and possibly x-rays. Not cheap but necessary to find out what is wrong.
Why is my dog so bloated?!?
TAKE HER TO THE VET NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's probably Heartworm, or Heart Faliure.
Sounds a lot like Heartworm. Do not give her heartworm tablets. If she already has it and u give her stuff for it, u will kill her.
U must take her to the vet as soon as possible. She might have to be put down.

Sounds like she should have been to the vet about 2 years ago. She could have worms, heartworm, heart problems, lung problems. Get her to the vet we can't diagnose the problem here.
