Do Poodles shred their hair?

My dog books tell me more about showing dogs than their natural qualities.

Poodles shed very little or none at all.

Every dog shreds some fur.Get a better book if you are not planning on showing your dog.

poodles do not shed any hair. They are ideal for those with allergies and those who don't want to hoover up hair every day.

And they are great dogs too, really friendly.

they don't shred it's shed and it's fur not hair and finally all dogs get a winter coat which they moult in spring/summer

Do Poodles shred their hair?

Only if you give them scissors. Do you mean SHED? (i.e. moult?) Shred means to cut something up in little pieces. I believe poodles generally don't moult, but you have to brush them every day or their hair will get matted. And they're small and yappy and can be very bad tempered. I wouldn't have one.

The Poodle's coat is long, curly, harsh and very thick. It does not shed. Poodle wool is similar in texture to sheeps wool though it is not used for any commercial purposes.

Poodles are single coat dogs and neither shed nor "shred" (LOL!) their hair. Come to think of it, I don't know of any dogs that "shred" their hair.

We have had a toy poodle for 6 years, and she does not shed , even in the Spring!!!! Yes, they do require grooming, and ther curly fur will matt if not brushed. We take our's to the groomer for a "puppy cut" every 3 months.

Poodles are considered to be one the smartest breeds in the world, second only to border collies. They have very diverse personalities. Ours is VERY playful, intelligent, affectionate. She crawls up in our laps and just drowns us with kisses, and she loves to run and fetch, which she taught herself. Like any other breed, they need training. But once you bring one home, you just fall in love immediately, and the rest just comes together!!!!

NO... there is no natural shedding of the "fur" on a poodle. It must have it's "fur" trimmed on a regular basis. There are exceptions... illness, scratching, fleas, bad skin could cause a loss of coat. If you are concerned about your poodle coat see your groomer on a regular basis, about every five weeks. Bath your dog at home with a good shampoo and creme rinse and keep it brushed. As a professional groomer since 1994 I always, always recommend a product called NuVet Plus for poodles. You can't purchase it at a store it has to be special ordered. call 1 800 474 7044 and use reference # 41206G. This will dramatically keep it's coat in a "show like" condition" and begins to work in just a couple of weeks. Keep your dog on this supplement because it has many other benefits too. This WORKS!!!
