Is my dog getting to old?

He always sits in the corner on his pillow. He is so lazy. he has gray hair on his face, his furr keeps falling out, he has arthritous, he barks at everything, and he has troubles getting up. He is 14 but are these signs that he could leave me some day soon? i dont want him to die.

Please take him to the vet and get a blood panel done on him. Older pets do get arthritis and their muzzles turn gray, but it's the hair falling out that bothers me. Do not give him any human meds unless your vet approves them. He is probably not lazy, his arthritis is just bothering him. Let your vet look him over. Good luck!

take him to the vet, i sorry to say this but it could be suffering. and if the vet thinks it is then he or she might say that to avoid any more suffering that the best option could be to put it to sleep. i'm so sorry.

14 is getting pretty old, especially if he's a big dog. I had a Great Dane who lived to be 18. They're considered ancient at 8 or 9.

If your dogs in good health other than the arthritis and some hair loss then he could still be around for a long while yet.

its possible he wont die yet but ny dog is old and is very lazy all dogs get lazy when they get old realy so i wouldnt worry =]

Alot of this sounds like what happens to humans when they get old... we get tired/lazy, hair turns gray, arthritis and instead of barking we just yell more. LOL. If you are really worried, take the dog to his vet.

Is my dog getting to old?

Allot depends on the breed/size of the dog... but 14 yrs is getting up there. Give him glucosamine for his arthritis and 1 baby aspirin a day. You may need to have the "hair falling out" checked by the vet.. could many things wrong. Feed him a good diet and enjoy him.. there no guarantees. He could live for a few more years or not. Your lucky to have had him that long

Definitely need to consult with your vet. If he is arthritic...he could be in a lot of pain which they have meds for. But, 14 is getting pretty old....don't let him suffer if he is and if he is not in pain... love him and let him lay around if that makes him happy....you would lay around too at 98 (14x7).

Well, as hard as it is,,,,14 is awfully old for a dog..I'm sure he has had a great life...

Is my dog getting to old?

that is a possibility, you should get him a little doggy friend so his last days will be fun and exciting.

Is my dog getting to old?

A pup is not the answer!! Get him checked by the vet , he may have an aging, but treatable problem that could give him happier times. Mine acted like that, went on a few drugs, lotta TLC %26amp; lived a much more active %26amp; happy 4 years!!!

What are the signs of aging and what should you do about them? One of the first signs of aging is slowing down. It will take your dog longer to get up and get started from a lying position, longer to climb stairs (one at a time, rather than two). Some of these changes are natural, but it is important not to overlook changes that may be symptoms of a condition needing treatment.

Never assume that a change in behavior or habits is simply due to old age; it may be due to a treatable condition
