My dog has a lump where her lower jaw meets her throat. Any ideas what this might be?

In the beginning it looked like my husky had a double chin because there was a tuft of hair that seemed to be growing more than the rest. I felt it and there was nothing there for the longest time. She's not a very furry husky because I live in Az where its hot; I figured this was just a characteristic of this breed.

Well in a matter of days the lump has gotten quite large and there is a hard lump, where once it just seemed like flabby skin. I'm worried it might be a tumor so I have scheduled a vet visit. In in the meantime I was wondering if anyone else had experience with these throat lumps. Its about the size of a ping pong ball.

Probably a benign fatty tumor. Your vet will be able to tell you. good Luck.

it might be an infection or inflamed lubula, but my female dog has one on her under-neck, but it's not very big... If you're feeding her raw meat, that could be the case.... anything eaten like un-cooked seeds may have caused it. I know some rice or pasta that's un-cooked may have done it.

My dog had a half-dollar sized lump under his jaw on the left side about a week ago. His was a lymph-node infection. Antibiotics have cleared it up very nicely. There are tons of things it could be although size and location narrow it down some. Don't freak out too much. As long as she seems comfortable and can eat just keep an eye on it till you can get to the vet.

I work at a vet clinic and it sounds like it could be a tumor. If it is just in the skin layer and not attached to anything it could be just a fatty growth which is really common. If it is attached....it could be hopefully a benign tumor. Or, worse luck if it is around the throat area it could be a lymphoma tumor. But, your vet will have a better idea when he/she sees it and does a proper examination and runs some lab work.

I wish luck to you. I hope it goes okay.

A Husky in Arizona?????????????????

Do you put on a fur coat when you go to the beach?

Your dog is probably terribly uncomfortable living so far from where it would naturally live.

Poor dog.

  1. My dog just had a large fast-growing lump removed from his throat - it was from a foxtail.

BTW - Not all of Arizona is desert and cacti - we live in the mountains and it actually SNOWS!
