MY dog is covered in thistle like grass, known in Montana as "needle and thread".....?

He's a long hair german shepherd, and pulling them out is tedious and time consuming. But I've been working on it. Does anyone know what the worst side effects of this burrowing grass is? A few have completely lodged in the skin and are pussing up. More info appreciated, though he should be sticker free today (finally!)

Fox tails burrow into feet and will cause problems if you don't clean your dog, get a sheep card and use that and get it clean or you could restrain your dog to an area where weeds are not rampant. You might consider shaving him for the summer and applying bag balm to the bad spots, if you do shave him keep him out of the hot sun during the day.

Take him to the Vet. The ones that are embedded in his skin are infected. They need to be removed surgically. You may want to shave him down and let his coat re grow.
