My puppy's poop gets stuck on his butt hair!!!!! HELP!!!!?

My 10 month-old Pomeranian puppy (very fluffy and creme/white/beige color). Everytime he poops, literally, I have to wash his butt with dog shampoo. What do I do? Its winter and its like 20 degrees, I can't just shave his butt hair off+ it'll look weird, no hair on his but normal hair rest of his body. I know its gross but thank God, you're not me!!!! Thanks in advance. WTF do I do?

A little trim will help alot.

Cut the hair that is closest to the butt hole. You can try that and if it does not work call a local vet to see what they say you should do.

shes a cocker spaniel.

i think it means u need to express her anal glans.

its gross but u can get a vet or groomer to do it.

i cut all her fur off so she cant get any stuck.

cut her hair off and buy her a little sweater till it grows back.

Maybe you can trim it a little to make it easier.

If your pom is ona good high quality diet the stool should be firm and not stick to him bottom. Do you give table food, etc? That will disturb the stools and make them less firm.

Get him on IAMS mini chunks dry food or something and change it overa period of a week mixing it with the old food so it dont make him worse.

Table food and things will make the poop soft and stick so see if that works. Alsl has it been wormed? May it have coccidia? Have the stools checked by your vet and go from there, good luck! And BTW, go ahead and trim around the anus if it helps, its better than him getting a red tooshy and you cleaning him all the time..Good Luck!

Everytime I took my cocker spaniel and my yorkie poodle mix to the groomer, she shave around their little butts. She never cut their hair off but she shaved there some kinda way that they did get poo stuck there. That is your best bet. The groomer knows already what to do in that area

If you can afford it take her to a groomer. They will probably be able to help you out. If you can't just try to trim the hair a little bit, don't cut it down completely just enough so that you don't have to wash his butt every time he goes to the bathroom. Groomers tend to be very willing to work with their customers so I think that would be your best bet. Explain what has been happening and that you don't want him to be shaved down completely.

that is exactly why i dont own a long haired dog...

my tip would be to trim as much as hair on the butt as you could thats what my mom always did to her Pomeranian dog, just that she would get it done professionally so it would come out nice looking.

Its a horrible job but some mum's gotta do it!!! Do what i did but be very careful with those scissors! Cut the bum hair ( sorry! ) very close but in line with the fur, if you know what i mean? Cutting the hair on a dog this young means it probably won't grow back ( my yorkies never did! ) so if you want to show her etc, be careful! It saves an awful lot of trouble concerning poo in the future, trust me! It'll be the best thing you ever did - where's the scissors ha ha ha. Good luck.

TRIM! You don't need to shave it, but trim the hair that is normally affected. Sort of around and going down from the a**hole. I'm sur eyou know by now where you usually have a problem, so just trim that area. It won't look weird if you make it look gradual.

You could also take it to a groomer and ask them to do it, then when you see what they do, repeat it in the future.

My family and I have a Pom too. I asked her vet about this very problem and he recommended that we keep the hair around the "problem area" trimmed very close to the skin. He actually trimmed it for her while my husband and I watched, so that we can do this for her when she gets her bath every week.

You only have to trim a couple of inches of hair. Also make sure that you keep the hair on her rear legs trimmed also, or you can have poop get stuck on there too. Poms have so much cozy fur a little trimmed spot isn't going to hurt in the cold.

Our Pom has gotten so used to us trimming that she just sees us pick up the scissors at bathtime and she turns so her bum is facing us.

One of the times we were at the vet a lady brought in a Pom that was impacted because he had been a rescue pup that wasn't taken care of properly and he couldn't poop, everything was all stuck in the hair. Poor baby, I almost cried just thinking about it. She had only been fostering the dog for a day and couldn't figure out why he wasn't going to the bathroom.

Our pom is the fawn color and I usually call her foxy because of it. Poms are sweet little dogs. Best of luck with your little guy, I bet he is a sweetie.

When you brush the pup's hind end, brush out from both sides of it's pooper. This should keep hair out of the way next time it does its business. When it does have "stool sticking" but not not messy, just stuck, use a wide tooth comb and comb out solid poop on to a paper towel, then finish with a fine tooth comb or brush. This works on my shih-tsu. He is 15 now, and if the problem occurs, he lets me know, and waits for me to get the big blue comb. Then he gets a cookie. (Maybe he purposely sits on it for the reward? Just kidding. Joy

We keep our poms rear fur trimmed. It cuts down on the "cling-on" problem and also cuts the risk of impacted anal glands.
