My dog is 7 years old and has been lying around sleeping day and night the past couple of days. When I gave him a bath the night before last, I noticed he had lost a lot of hair in the tub and he had some bleeding scratch and bite marks that were not detectable when he was dry. He has a vet appt later today....but with the excess sleeping I was wondering if he might be sick as well as him having some sort of skin issue. How can I tell for sure?
How can you tell if your dog is sick?
If your Vet does the right thing he will run some simple inexpensive tests that will answer alot of questions.Temperature, scrape skin and look at it under the microscope, bowel swab for worms, and even more. With these things done and a good check over I am sure he can help you.One way to keep a check on your pet at home is to check for temperature(Normal For a Dog is 101*)also watch his eating habits and elimination habits as well.Check his weight by weighing your self and then pick up the Dog and weigh yourself with the Dog.Keep all vaccinations current and that will cut down on illness.I wish you good Luck I hope your companion is Okay.Good Luck!!!!

You've made arrangements for the answer - keep that vet appointment
How can you tell if your dog is sick?
You can usually tell just by the way their acting if they are acting well or not.. But your vet should be able to tell what's going on with him.. I hope he gets better..
