My dog is scared of everything, what do i do?

she is scared of a hanger, the vacuum, when i shake out the rugs, and when people come by our house the hair on her back stands up straight and she gives off this fishey smell. We have tried everything. HELP!

My dog is scared of everything, what do i do?

Teach the dog to touch. Put a piece of really good food in your hand. Touch your dogs nose with same hand, say Touch!, then give them the food. Do this two or three times. Then put the food in your hand, say Touch! and make the dog come to your hand. Keep doing it. Move your hand all over. Put it high, put low, put it behind you. Do it until the dog will touch your hand no matter where it is. The whole process should take less than 5 minutes.

Next, get the dog to Touch! something she likes like her pillow or food bowl. Make it a game, continue to give her food every time. Next move on to something stationary that she is scared of. Try the hanger or the vacuum. When she is happily touching them move it just a little, get her to Touch!. This part of the process takes days or weeks. Go slow. It will take at least a month for her to touch the vacuum while it is turned on. Be loving and patient and eventually she will touching the vacuum so much you won't be able to vacuum.

As for fear of people, show them how to teach her to Touch!. Give them food and have her touch their hand. I train dogs and I do this with every new dog that comes into class. They love me after that.

PS. That smell comes from her anal sacks. It like scaring the sh** out of her.

My dog is scared of lots of things too. Some things you can get them to stop being scared of, but some things they can't help. My dog was scared of forks, but if you just try to somehow show them that it won't hurt them, they won't be scared of it anymore.

Well first of all give her a bath , lol, well maby you need to show her more love , because sometimes if you show you dog how nice you are and how much you care about them they wont be as scared, oh but like almost every animal is scared of a vacuum .

My dog is scared of everything, what do i do?

my dog used to be afraid of a lot of things, because my brother abused it. the way i got her back to normal is i exposed her to the things. like with the hanger, just hold her calmly but make sure she isn't able to bite you , and let her sniff it, then gently run it across her back or side. with other problems i would sugest, go to the vet and set her up with a trainer (you ca also go to petsmart for that) and eventually with a lot or hard work and detirmination she will break the habit! good luck!!!!

Ha ha sounds just like my dog!! I know how frustrating it can be and that smell is from them releasing the anal gland it happens when they get really scared and it does stink alot!! I have found that there are some things that you just cant stop them from being afraid of like the vacuum and thunder storms and when you pull out your chair for my dog...lol but for objects like hangers and rugs etc what you do is take the offending object and lace the surrounding area with treats....never force the dog to go near it but encourage her to. Sit down quietly beside the object and talk calmly and constantly to her while handling the object and giving her treats (note: sometimes they refuse to take regular treats at a time like this so use coldmeat or hotdogs instead, they cant resist) Also say "its OK" the whole time you are doing this in a high pitched humorous voice while handing out goodies so that she can learn that when you say its ok it really is ok. Work at moving treats closer and closer to the object until she is eating right off of whatever it is. Do the same thing with people make sure to hug or touch them while telling her its ok and put treats all around them and finally in thier hand and tell them under no circumstances try to pet her or talk to her or look directly at her during the process. The best thing is to tell all visitors to 1 Avoid all direct eye contact and 2 never try to pet her even if she is right there sniffing them. My dog is especially afraid of strangers and the only thing that works is for them to completely ignore him in every way until he decides to bring them a toy even then it takes weeks or months for him to let them pet him. But be persistent make your dog see that scary stuff means good food and pretty soon she will be way less skittish. As for you shaking out the rug...next time before you do it play with her with her favorite toy then do exactly what you do before getting ready to shake the rug.....stop play with her some more shower with treats...continue with the rug shake it a few times and when she freaks ignore it and stop what you are doing and play with her give more treats....soon enough she will read the tell signs of you getting ready to shake the rug and she will be excited because it also means play and treats. Do this for everything be patient and always calm and reassuring make what she is afraid of into something she looks forward to by surrounding it with good things before and after!!!
