My dog is sheding in winter? Is there something wrong?

He is a chihuahua/? mixed breed and he is starting to shed really bad. He has no hair under his collar and under his belly. The temperature has been changing rapidly. I don't know if that would do it. And also I have started changing his diet so he won't eat his poop. Please if you could tell me anything that would help. I would be grateful!

The shedding could be because it hasnt been cold enough or dark enough to tell the dog to shed its summer coat and to replenish with a winter coat. If he is eating his poop this often times is common dog behavior...

He's probably a little highly strung, like most of his breed, and the change in diet may have stressed him out. Perhaps you should get him checked at the vet.

Eat his poop? I've heard of dogs eating a cats poop but not their own? Maybe its because its a Mexican breed and it doesnt get winter there?

you should bring him to the vet

After you take the dog to the vet to make sure there is nothing that needs medical attention, then I would change the diet. If you continue to feed commercial dog food, then you will continue to get the same results.

Chis are funny dogs, I would take him to the vet, just cause its cold they have thin skin and hair is all they got. Also look for signs of mange (or however you spell it) Good Luck.
