Granted I could just be over protective but the sore is more like an overly scratched mosquito bite...large hard bump and only bleeding when irritated. He can barely lick it cause it's so high up on his leg but the hair on it is gone and it's the size of a dime. Should I worry now or wait it out and see if it gets worse. It's not infected that I can tell cause there's no pus but could it be a parasite of some kind?
My dog has an open sore on his upper front leg...what could it be?
My dog had that same thing (sounds like it)It looked like a bump with no hair left on it....and it was on her front upper leg. The vet had a special name for it- but its basically a sore related to licking (even if he can barely reach it) I got some antibacterial spray for it, and it was gone in a week or two.

Did he have a tick there? It could be a reaction from that or flea bite. There are alot of dogs that are getting bit by chiggers (if youl ive in an area with them). It could be a histocytoma (goes away but might need a steroid injection). Hot spot....with usually isn't a lump, that might require antibiotics and antihistamines. It all depends on the age of the dog also, is it a wart? Growth? Ring worm with have hair loss and usually doesn't bleed.

Do Not Stress, It is most likely a Hot Spot, these occur if your baby is allergic to flea bites, mosquito bites etc. There is a cortisone spray made for this at pet co or pet smart. Your vet can also get you a script for it. It is caused by your pet biting at something biting it , it draws blood and he/she ends up with a "hot spot " otherwise known as a scab that itches.

actually it could be infected and you just don't know it, also it could be from the dog licking it causing bacteria to multiply, keep it clean and dry, also soak it once a day in Epsom salt water and clean with peroxide, if it doesn't get better call your vet
