I have an eight-year old Black Lab. He is a great dog, gets lots of exercise, and is with me 90% of the time. His elbows (upper leg joint) have no hair on them. He seldom licks or scratches them. Why is there no hair on his elbows? Thanks for you answer.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
On larger breed or heavy dogs, the joints form a thick callous from pressure. Soft cushions or carpet don't really prevent or heal it. It's just a pressure point and shouldn't cause any problems for the dog.
And thank you for being such a great companion to your dog. I bet he's the happiest Lab alive!
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
Because he flops down on them when he lays down. My German Shepard had the same problem.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
From laying on them probably on your floor. Many short coated breeds get them. They can get pretty thickened too. But nothing to worry about.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
Because you let him sleep on a hard floor - his elbows are taking all the brunt. Give him a cushy bed and his callouses will heal
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
This is called alopecia (anywhere where there is loss of or no hair) and yes it is just like our hands, as to the hardness of the palm! (because we use them alot)
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
The fur wears off in older dogs from lying down on bare floors his whole life.
It's nothing on you, just happens.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
because he is forming a callus. This is most likely caused from laying on his elbows. It usually does not cause any discomfort. He will be fine.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
the hair is rubbed off over time and the dog getting up, laying down, rolling over....
had a great dane, she had hair loss on the joints too.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
That is the same thing with my black lab. He is only 2 and a half though. When they have a lot of exercice, that will happen to them. I dont think it is a major problem. Next time your dog has a vet check up ask him or her about it. My dog has them to, like little scabs, on his elbows.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
He's 8. That's like 50 or 60 in human terms. He's just aging. If he's average-size he's around 60 or 70 pounds. Even though he doesn't lick or scratch he lays down and that causes the hair to wear. He should be fine but if you're concerned take him to the vet.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
its normal,dont worry!!!!
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
my lab is has the same thing. the vet told me that they were just callouses. nothing to worry about.
Why does my Black Lab have no hair on his elbows?
They are callouses, all labs that i know of get them , my dog is part lab part pit bull and he started getting at about 5 years. they are not to bad yet. you could try and rub a little Vaseline on them every night and morn to soften them up. do not use too much because he might lick and you don't want him to get sick, if you just rub in real good he will be fine.
